Few topics stir as much fascination and debate in the Christian faith as the End Times. From movies and novels to countless sermons and books, interpretations abound about what will happen when Christ returns. Some see signs of the end in every global crisis, while others approach it with fear or even skepticism. But what does Scripture really say?
The clearest starting point is the teaching of Jesus Himself in Matthew 24:36–44:
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father… Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come… So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
Here, Jesus emphasizes two things: uncertainty and readiness. No one—neither angels nor even the Son in His earthly humility—knows the exact day or hour. The comparison to Noah’s time underscores how ordinary life will seem before sudden judgment. The message is not to predict the timeline but to prepare our lives.
Across Christian history, believers have held various interpretations of the End Times. A brief overview includes:
While interpretations differ, all point to a central truth: Christ will return, and His coming will be both unexpected and decisive.
Rather than encouraging speculation or endless debates about prophecy charts, the Bible consistently calls believers to:
The End Times are not primarily about fear—they are about hope in God’s ultimate victory.
Thamo Naidoo and other apostolic voices remind us that the End Times should not be sensationalized but understood through the lens of God’s eternal purpose. The focus is not on escaping earth but on being formed into a mature, prepared people who embody Christ’s Kingdom here and now.
Gerhard Kittel noted in his theological studies that the New Testament language of parousia (“coming” or “presence”) emphasizes the certainty of Christ’s return, not the details of its timetable. The weight is on His arrival as Lord, not on predicting signs.
The point of Jesus’ teaching is clear: don’t waste time worrying about the when—focus on the how.
How are we living today? Are we watchful, faithful, and obedient? Are we stewarding our lives as though the Master could return at any moment?
Living ready doesn’t mean living in fear. It means walking daily in intimacy with God, forgiving others, proclaiming the gospel, and keeping our lamps filled with oil (Matthew 25:1–13). Readiness is about relationship—being aligned with Christ so that His return is a moment of joy, not dread.
The End Times are not a mystery to be solved but a call to faithful living. Jesus tells us clearly:
“You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
— Matthew 24:44
So, rather than fearing the unknown, let us embrace the certainty that Christ will return. And until that day, let us live in holiness, hope, and readiness—bringing the Kingdom of God to earth as we await the King of Kings.
